DANCE CLOTHING
Ballet, Contemporary, Pointe, Any Jazz, Ballet-Tap & Ballet-Tap-Jazz combos, Dance With Me, and Creative Movement:
• Leotard (attached skirt ok) & tights (any color)
• Hair pulled back off the face into a neat ponytail
Tap, Musical Theater, Cheer Dance, Hip Hop:
• leotard/tights or a close-fitting camisole with shorts, capris, or jazz pants. Shorts must have tights underneath
• Hair pulled off the face in a neat ponytail
Acro
• leotard or unitard (no tights/pants)
• For safety, long hair must be pulled back into a neat ponytail
All Male Students
• Plain tee shirt with stretchy black pants or bike shorts
• For ballet: black canvas or leather ballet flats
• For tap: black Oxford tie tap shoes
• For contemporary: skin-tone half-soles
• For Musical Theater/Jazz/Hip Hop/Cheer Dance/Acro same as female dancers
No dancers may wear oversized/bulky tee shirts, sweatshirts, or pants. No jeans. Due to safety issues, NO jewelry other than stud earrings should be worn. Students improperly dressed will be informed that they must dress properly for the next class. Failure to do so will result in parental notification.
REQUIRED DANCE SHOES
Ballet: Monday 5pm and 7:30pm, Wednesday 6:30pm, Friday 7:15pm
• Split-sole ballet flats in pink leather or canvas
Ballet/Pre-pointe Thursday 6pm
• Bloch “Arch Angel” Ballet flats
• Pointe shoes by teacher permission only
Combo classes (Ballet/tap, ballet/tap/jazz, ballet/jazz)
• Pink leather or canvas ballet flats
• Skin-tone Bloch Neoflex or similar
• Caramel/tan Bloch “Allie” Tap shoes
Contemporary
• Skin-tone half-soles. Leather or canvas
Jazz/musical theater
• Skin-tone jazz (Bloch Neo-flex or similar)
Thursday’s Kiddie Hip Hop
• all black (including soles) low-top sneakers for male and female dancers that will only be worn for dance class
All other Hip Hop classes
• all black (including soles) hip hop dance sneaker for male and female dancers
Cheer Dance
• all black (including soles) hip hop dance sneaker for male and female dancers
Acro
• no shoes needed
We recommend My Dance Bag in Cherry Hill, NJ (900 Township Lane/856-428-8844) for your shoe and dancewear purchases. They have a list of our requirements for shoes and will give you a 10% discount on your purchase for being a JDO student. As children and their feet grow quickly, we recommend you purchase shoes no earlier than the second half of August. As always, if you have any questions about shoes/dress codes, please let us know.
